Airy Bedroom Decor
I don't know about you all, but my bedroom is the one place I love going to unwind, relax, and wake up feeling refreshed. When I am out of town, I'm always wishing I could be back at home in my own bed. I'm sure Henry gets tired of hearing me say that, but as much as I love traveling, there is just no place like home or my own bed.
My bedroom is where I curl up under my cozy blanket and read my favorite novel before falling asleep. It's a place of quite conversation between Henry and I as we recap our day and unwind for the night. I go to my bedroom to just have a moment to be by myself and away from all the craziness of the day. Although I do sometimes hear my name being called in the background, it seems as if my bedroom is my territory, my sanctuary. Its where I wake up with the sun shining in as I feel refreshed. Where my feet hit the floor knowing and thinking its going to be a great day!
I seriously love my bed and my bedroom! It was very important for me to create a light and airy space in our bedroom in order to achieve a relaxing, refreshing, and cozy atmosphere. There are so many ways to create this in a bedroom, so here I have included a few of my own tips.
Light/Neutral Wall Color
We of course started with a light color on the walls. We used flat Sherwin Williams Creamy for the walls and the same in a satin finish for the trim. You don't have to go with white. Some may prefer a light gray or even beige. A light color on the walls will allow the room to be simple, clean, and elegant, while giving it a brighter feel in order to create a positive mood. Staying with a neutral, light color will also keep the style timeless. When you are wanting a little change, you can always do so with switching up some of the decor.
White Curtains and Natural Light
White curtains are always a must when creating a light and airy feel for the bedroom. The white curtains will allow for more natural light to flow throughout the room. We purchased our white linen curtains from Joss and Maine. We hung the curtains higher for more of a floor to ceiling look. This makes the room and windows appear larger and gives a more elegant feel. Using a black, wood, or even brass rod will add contrast between the white walls and white curtains. Here we used a black rod to tie in with the black lamps and windows.
Light Wood Furniture
Using light wood furniture within the room is a great way to add warmth and texture without making the room dark. It also is gives the room a natural feel. In our bedroom, you will see we kept it very simple with a few pieces we already had. We used 2 night stands and a dresser for the main furniture, while adding a couple small accent pieces.
It's also important to make sure the room is not cluttered and to stick to the basics. This will create more of an open feel. Another option to add some more light wood is by hanging a mirror above the bed. This will make a great focal point for the room and will make the room appear larger.
A Pop of Color
While it is important to stick to the light/neutral color palette, adding pops of color will create some interest in the room. This is where you can have fun and show your personality! Incorporating color in pillows, lamps, and throws are all ways to add texture, coziness, and personality. Here I added a very fun and colorful pillow, paired with a darker leather one. This creates a good balance of masculine and feminine. I also added in two black lamps that tie in with the black windows and current rods, and pops against the light walls.
I hope you found these tips helpful. Really the most important thing to keep in mind when creating a light and airy bedroom is to keep things simple.
